Abstract

This is a descriptive linguistic study of gender language in Saudi articles titled "Syntactic Features in Gender Language in Saudi Journalism: Okaz, Al-Watan, and Al-Riyadh Newspapers as a Model" to extract its syntactic characteristics. It analyzes forty articles written by men and forty articles written by women using the descriptive method. The research concluded several results, including: there are no statistically significant differences between the sentence structure and its usage by men versus women. This could possibly be explained by previous studies that showed certain groups of women, such as specialists and those engaged in politics, have adopted new linguistic styles that bring them closer to the dominant male language. These styles include various methods, such as choosing supra-syntactic features that are closer to male features, like using falling intonation patterns instead of rising ones.
