Abstract

The sociological field has known important terms related to the concept of "end", such as Alain Touraine's "end of societies", Jean-François Lyotard's "end of grand narratives or big ideas", “the end of utopia" by several thinkers, most notably Herbert Marcuse, Francis Fukuyama's "end of history", and other thinkers or sociologists who were interested in the subject of endings through monitoring the transformations and changes occurring in societies, which radically and deeply changed their structure, framework, and form throughout their historical, social, and cultural path.

Sociologists François Dubet and Danilo Martuccelli joined these thinkers interested in endings, as they attempted to discuss "the end of the idea of society" through their book "In What Society Do We Live ?" in which they explain that the idea of society cannot be abandoned as a subject of sociology, because building a conception of social life is a part of this science's mission.
