Ideologization of Narrative in the Novel "Rust of the Crowns" by Afifa Saudi Smaiti

Abstract

This study represents an approach to ideology as it has become a text that builds the narrative of “Sadaa attijan” by the Tunisian novelist Afifa Saoudi Smiti. What seems striking in this novel is that the narration mostly produces ideology whether bidden of explicit. We have chosen to study this artistic phenomenon especially at the level of character in terms of their actions and words as well as the vocabulary employs and that has made Philip Hamon consider it "a standard dictionary" in which ideology resides. The findings of our study on “Sadaa attijan” reveal that Afifa Saoudi smiti structures her narrative to convey ideology through two main approaches: The first is an artistic method where the author shapes the main character as an embodiment of ideology-a notion reflected in both actions and vocabulary. The second approach draws on direct historical reference exxplicity engaging with the Palestinian cause though it holds less significance than the first. Consequently, we did not examine it in depth and only mentioned it briefly as it diminishes the artistic expression of ideology within the novel.
