Manifestations of Criticism and Correction for Imam Ibn AlFaras AlGarnati's: Cases and Examples

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the critical personality of Ibn Al-Faras through his method of using the sciences to read religious legal texts, and to reveal his opinions, criticisms, and preferences in order identify his critical mentality in a practical manner through exploring how his criticism is constructed and practiced. This is less likely to be attained without access to his thought, a rather strenuous task which requires questioning the studied model, and extracting its secrets, as far as possible. The method adopted seeks to read Ibn Al-Faras through extrapolating, analyzing and commenting on texts. The study concludes that Imam Ibn Al-Faras is a critical commentator par excellence. Rather, I think he reached the rank of Ijtihad and challenged its pioneers. Ibn al-Faras's approach consolidates Islamic legislation, strengthens its principle, relates it to its basic foundations, and refines it when it blossoms, thus protecting it from unnecessary disputes and from disturbances that impede its safety and growth. Therefore, his approach is indispensable in any period of Islamic legislation. The study recommends that not all corpuses should be sanctified; that is, there is a need to go study how they are constructed and the relationship between language and the events because failure to do that may result in adopting weak sayings, if not complete mythical beliefs.
