Abstract

This study focuses on analyzing the social dimensions of meaning in the novel "Time of Mistakes" by "Mohamed CHOUKRI" in the light of social semiotics. It is a study that aims to interpret the discourse of this autobiography in order to reveal what the writer says through the context of the language, and the implicit meanings he expresses that cannot be separated from the context of the society that the novel portrays and was written in. The study concluded that the novel is a social semiotic system used by "Mohamed CHOUKRI" to pass hidden messages, express his rejection of the phenomena of his society, and argue creatively against the mistakes of an individual and society. Hence, the "biography of the ego"- according to him- is recognition, evaluation, criticism, meditation, confrontation, and protest.
