Abstract

The study aimed at identifying the reality of poultry farming and production and its impact on food security in Dhi Qar Governorate in Iraq during the year 2023 AD. It used the regional approach, the descriptive and analytical approach of the data, and the maps were relied upon in the visual comparison of the phenomena related to the study in order to achieve the objectives. The study found a set of results, the most significant of which are: the research showed that there is a clear discrepancy in the geographical distribution of poultry projects and their production, as the eastern side of the study area was distinguished by the largest share in terms of the number of projects and the quantities of their production. It is represented by the following administrative units (Al-Rifai district centers, Al-Gharraf and Sikkar Castle, Al-Nasr and Al-Fajr districts, and Al-Shatrah district center). The study showed that Dhi Qar Governorate suffers from a shortage in the quantity of chicken meat production by (-904) tons.

The study suggested a set of recommendations, most notably: the necessity of facilitating interest-free construction and operation loans for meat and egg fields in order to promote poultry production for the private sector in exchange for selling products at prices acceptable to citizens. This occurs through finding a price policy through which profit is achieved for the agricultural product and takes into account the living condition of the citizen. In addition to paying attention to providing concentrated feed and its requirements at prices subsidized by the state and in the various administrative units in the province.
