Developing Teacher Preparation Programs Within the Faculties of Education at Yemeni Universities in Light of Contemporary Global Trends

Abstract

The study aimed to identify contemporary global trends in the field of teacher preparation, and to determine how they can be used in order to develop a proposed concept for the development of teacher preparation programs within the faculties of education at Yemeni universities. The study is based on the findings of previous studies that were reviewed in this field. The study summed up a set of recommendations and proposals, one of the most important of which includes, the necessity for the faculties of education at Yemeni universities to conduct a periodic review of teacher preparation programs and develop them in light of contemporary global trends. This is to ensure that universities meet the requirements of teachers in the field, fulfil the aspirations of society, and keep up to date with the changing norms in education. This is in addition to reconsidering the process of student selection at entry level by appointing students for teacher preparation programs through applications that ensure the selection of the most appropriately qualified candidates only. Other recommendations and proposals encompass the introduction of an integrated preparation system within the College of Education within five years, as well as a review of the practical education system. It is crucial that the implementation period of practical training is long, enabling a smooth and gradual transition starting with observation, then pairing study and teaching, then teaching for a full semester, and finally expanding the scope of cooperation and partnership between faculties of education and civil society institutions in order to achieve building programs that meet the requirements of the market and meet the needs and aspirations of society.
