Abstract

The study aimed at highlighting the issue of punishment for defamation, especially in light of the emerging provisions that try to limit defamation through various means, which requires deterring this defamation by punishing and reprimanding, etc. The descriptive approach was used and the inductive approach was used in the study because of its importance in this research. The study found several conclusions, including: that Sharia only commands what it considers to be purely beneficial, and it only forbids what is purely harmful, so the punishment was one of the commandments from which the interests of the Muslim community are obtained. The aim of the punishment is to punish the criminal for his crime and stop his aggression, so that others will also stop and take a lesson from the punishment and repent and never return to it.
