Abstract

The study of housing is framed by an approach of rural areas generally, where the rural residence reflects the housing style as a way to organise a group of peaple in thier life within a specific .Geographical center. This study aims at identifying the predominant style of housing in that area and the most important transformations known there moreover, it concentrates on factors which contribute to those transformations.

The study reached a set of results and one of the main consequences is that Ashtouka territory knows over time many housing styles. In addition, there was an impact of typographical conditions. So, the style of living was distributed according to soil, water, terrain, and the climate. Furthermore, there were human, social, and economic factors that contribute either in the concentration of population or the spread out. As a result, the modern housing is widely spread through the use of modern building materials and adopting new urban forms which are extraneous to the local environment.

Besides, the study recommended a set of recommendations. First, it suggests strong housing valuation as an important earthly and heritage resource. The latter can play a basic role in the development of the region especially the rural tourism. Second, the study suggests the rehabilitation of the already existing housing or building new ones according to the local style of living where they use building techniques and traditional materials related to the local area.
