The Problem of Climate Change and Its Impacts on Water Security and the Challenges of Achieving Water Governance in Morocco

Abstract

Climate change and its repercussions on water securityhave become one of the most prominent challenges facing countries of the world, especially those located within the arid and semi-arid regions. In this regard, the issue of sustainability and rational management of water resources to protect and guarantee the water rights of present and future generations is strongly raised, especially since Morocco is considered one of the countries Africa is threatened by major water stress, and this problem may worsen in the next few years, especially with weak rainfall, successive years of drought, and increasing severity of climate changes. Therefore, it has become an issue that cannot be postponed to search for ways of rational management and strategies for adapting to scarcity. The research paper seeks to shed light on an important problem related to water security in light of global climate change, by talking about the status of water resources in Morocco and the major problems it poses, highlighting the repercussions of climate change on the future of water in Morocco, and presenting prospects for achieving water governance.
