• The study aimed at highlighting the approaches followed by Imam Ibn Taymiyyah in the subject of diligence (ijtihad), especially in light of the development in jurisprudential rulings that require opening the way of diligence for the purpose of people's interests. The researcher used the descriptive approach and the inductive and deductive approaches. The study found several results, including: any follower of Ibn Taymiyyah's sayings finds that he sometimes gives precedence to the Qur'an over the Sunnah, and sometimes he combines between them. whereas he intended by this that if he wanted to protect the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and urged to follow it and act upon it, so he equated the Sunnah with the Qur’an, in order to give consideration to it. It means that its importance is equivalent to the importance of the Qur’an in commitment, as it is a source of legislation like the Qur’an.
