The Rise of the Far-Right and Its Implications for Global Security

Abstract

Today, Western societies are witnessing a noticeable rise of far-right ideology among the public and political parties, with some of these forces gradually gaining access to positions of power and parliamentary seats. This shift in popular tendencies and the desire to elect right-wing representatives as voices for their aspirations calls for careful examination of this phenomenon, analyzing the prospects of far-right ascendancy in Europe and its current and future impact on international security—especially given that the countries where the right controls political decision-making are major and globally influential. This study focuses on the far-right: its emergence, development, and distribution across European countries, while analyzing its effect on global security. It consists of an introduction, three chapters, and a conclusion, with the first chapter defining the far-right, the second examining the causes of its emergence, and the third exploring the relationship between the far-right and international security. The study concludes that the rise of the far-right worldwide, particularly in Europe, represents a serious phenomenon with significant implications for international security and the overall political landscape. It recommends strengthening moderate discourse domestically, regionally, and internationally, ensuring alignment with a bloc of nations that adopt a similar moderate approach and avoid extremist policies, which could otherwise contribute to the spread of global conflicts.
