Economic emancipation of Moroccan women: Between aspiration and reality

Abstract

The equality between women and men in economic life is a fundamental human right. That's why Morocco has endeavored to increase women's participation in economic activity. It has worked on integrating gender dimension into economic plans and policies, applying principles of fairness and equality in both sexes' access to employment, resources, economic opportunities, resource management, and combating workplace discrimination. It has also sought to ensure equal access to economic decision-making positions, justice, equal pay, and project financing. Studies on women's economic empowerment underline the importance of the role work can play in women's economic emancipation, a necessary condition for creating and developing national wealth, as well as participating in public life, thus reinforcing their social status and their ability to participate in decision-making at political, professional, or familial levels. 

• The objective of this research is to study and analyze indicators related to women's participation in economic activity, unemployment and employment rates, as well as the quality and characteristics of the sectors they are heading towards. In addition to the challenges still faced by the strategies and plans adopted by the state to reduce the gender gap in the economic field and to reduce obstacles to women's access to decent and qualified employment, in a new economic context facing numerous international challenges. The comparative method adopted in this research has enabled us to make a series of statistical comparisons between the situation of women and men in the labor market, with results showing that Moroccan women continue to suffer from economic vulnerability and significant disparities between them and men regarding access to decision-making positions and decision-making
