Parenthesis and Contextual Significance in Selected Models of Andalusian Prose Discourse

Abstract

This study highlights parentheses (parenthetical sentences) in Andalusian prose through a semantic approach to selected models of Andalusian prose texts. It aims to reveal the contextual significance surrounding this type of sentence, based on the premise that context holds a central importance in understanding and interpreting discourses. Furthermore, the study contributes to demonstrating the value of parentheses in altering meaning according to the change in the speaker's intent, and shows their semantic interrelation with preceding sentences. It also seeks to grasp the stylistic capability that characterizes the authors of Andalusian literature, and to uncover their thoughts, which have provided us with works rich in creativity and literary beauty. Since context receives immense care and attention from scholars—both ancient and modern—this is what has prompted us to examine this topic and attempt to dedicate an independent study to it, focusing on selected models of Andalusian prose.
