Abstract
This study presents a comprehensive analysis of education in England during the Stuart dynasty (1603–1714), a period marked by profound political and religious transformations that significantly shaped the educational system. The research highlights the relationship between education and political and religious authority, the impact of the Puritan Revolution, the Republican Commonwealth, the Restoration of the monarchy, and finally the Glorious Revolution of 1688. It also examines the state of religious education, Latin schools, the role of universities in the development of English education, the status of women, and private education and its contribution to intellectual awareness. The study is based on the analysis of historical documents and the social and intellectual context, supported by quantitative and qualitative comparisons through illustrative tables. Education in the Stuart era represents one of the most complex historical models of the intersection of knowledge and power, and the intertwining of religion and politics in shaping the social and cultural consciousness of early modern England. The research reveals that education was not merely a tool for transmitting knowledge, but lay at the heart of the political and religious project of the state, and was part of the mechanism for producing obedience, shaping identity, and reproducing the existing social order. The study concludes that education in the Stuart era was a mirror reflecting the ideological struggles within English society and a means of reproducing the established order, yet it carried within it the seeds of change that would later grow in the age of reforms and democracy. It was an education managed from above, but it awakened intellectual and cultural ambitions from below, which later transformed the face of modern England.
