    Abstract

This study provides an overview of the societal function of historical education, drawing on the contemporary functions as defined by Jean-Marie De Ketele and Gaston Mialaret. It aims to address the question: Does historical education achieve the functions of contemporary education? The study employs a comparative descriptive approach, analyzing the functions sought by both contemporary and historical education to reveal similarities and differences between them. The findings suggest that the functions of historical education intersect with the contemporary concept of education in various aspects. Therefore, we recommend that those interested in historical education prioritize achieving the functions of contemporary education through the teaching and learning of history.
