The Effectiveness of International Protection of Youth Rights in the Gaza Strip Amid Armed Conflict: An Analytical Study in Light of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of international protection afforded to the rights of youth in the Gaza Strip amid armed conflict, by analyzing the relevant provisions of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and assessing the extent to which these legal rules can provide effective protection for young people against violations resulting from the continuation of hostilities. The significance of the study lies in its focus on youth as one of the groups most affected by armed conflicts, with particular attention to the legal and humanitarian realities in the Gaza Strip, thereby contributing to the enrichment of legal scholarship on the international protection of groups affected by conflicts. The study adopts the descriptive-analytical approach, alongside the comparative legal approach, through an analysis of relevant international conventions, customary rules, and international resolutions, and by linking them to the practical reality in the Gaza Strip. The study concludes that youth in the Gaza Strip are subjected to violations affecting many of their fundamental rights, including the right to life, health, education, work, and physical integrity, which adversely affects their humanitarian conditions and future prospects. The study recommends, among other measures, the development of international and regional programs aimed at empowering youth in conflict-affected areas and enhancing their participation in peacebuilding and reconstruction efforts.
