The Effect of Teaching with Interactive Map on Enhancing the Geography Lesson in Qualifying Secondary Education: The Common Trunk of Humanities and Human Sciences as a Case Study

Abstract

This study falls within priority educational research that investigates modern pedagogical methods for developing teaching strategies. It aimed to highlight the effect of teaching through interactive maps on improving geographical learning among secondary school learners. To address the topic, the study adopted the descriptive-analytical and experimental approaches and employed two tests: the first was a pre-test and the second a post-test to measure this effect, in addition to an observation checklist to monitor the extent of learners’ engagement and their interest in learning the subject. The study sample comprised 168 learners at the Common Core level in Arts and Humanities (the Provincial Directorate of Salé, under the Regional Academy of Education and Training of Rabat–Salé–Kénitra) during the 2023–2024 academic year. The sample consisted of two groups: a control group of 80 learners and an experimental group of 88 learners. The results of the study revealed a notable superiority of the experimental group, which studied using the interactive map, compared with the control group, which studied using the traditional method. The engagement of the learners in the experimental group and their interest in learning the subject were also observed. Accordingly, the study recommends a set of recommendations, most notably the need to incorporate interactive maps into school textbooks and to conduct similar studies covering all educational levels.
